Portrait of a Monster

If you want to look at a living example of the term 'monster', look no further than Dr. Kermit Gosnell. Gosnell has just recently been charged with eight counts of murder in the deaths of a patient and seven babies who were born alive and then killed with scissors immediately afterwards. The Philadelphia prosecutor, Seth Williams, said during a press conference today (Jan 19th) that Gosnell "induced labor, forced the live birth of viable babies in the sixth, seventh, eighth month of pregnancy and then killed those babies by cutting into the back of the neck with scissors and severing their spinal cord."

His 'career' had netted Dr. Gosnell and his family millions over the 30 years of his 'practice'. In addition to the murder of babies, Gosnell is also being charged with the murder of 41-year-old Karnamaya Mongar, who died on Nov. 20, 2009, when she was overdosed with anesthetics prescribed by the doctor.

Unfortunately, state regulators had ignored complaints about Gosnell and failed to visit or inspect his clinic since 1993. Upon finally visiting his clinic, officials were greeted with what the prosecutor called a "house of horrors." Williams said: "There were bags and bottles holding aborted fetuses scattered throughout the building. There were jars, lining shelves, with severed feet that he kept for no medical purpose."

I don't use this term often, but I don't know else to describe the above any better than Satanic. Scripture says that the devil has come to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10), and such a description fits Gosnell and his activities to a tee. How can a human being do the things Gosnell did? While the Bible says that humanity's heart is desperately wicked (Jeremiah 17:9), you have to wonder if sometimes people like Gosnell aren't driven by something else whose evil goes beyond the believable.

Pray that justice will be done where Gosnell is concerned and that this atrocity wakes people up to the incredible tragedy and reality of what abortion is.
